Travelling on the road last weekend, I dropped by a roadside canteen to have a quick and simple lunch. There wasn't many choices so my friend and I ordered the same food, fried kway tiaw. The canteen has a large Halal notice hanging on the wall so I did not expect to be served pork. The chef was fast, we didn't wait for long before a young lady wearing black tudung (muslim head cover) brought both dishes to our table. They looked nice and delicious. May be it was because we were too hungry that we didn't notice, until we almost completely finished eating, that the kway tiaw was so plain. There were just two or three small pieces of vegetables, couldn't remember if it had any chicken meat at all and two small prawn. But it was delicious, certainly because of too much MSG. Each plate of kway tiaw costed us RM3.50....wasn't it day light robbery? I know fuel price has increased and prices of all food commodities have also increased.A plate of fried kway tiaw in town was only RM2.50 before the price hike and it was not more than RM2 in the rural areas and it got much much more meat or chicken or prawn and vegetable. I ate all the kway tiaw but did not touch the two little prawn. I returned them to the canteen owner in protest!
