Belian Root Furniture

These unique furniture are made from the roots of Belian tree (Borneo Ironwood). No two pieces look alike as their appearance totally depend on the shape of the wood and the imagination of their creators. Sarawak is far far behind in the production of these very unique furniture than places like Bali in Indonesia and Chiangmai in Thailand. But now at least some innovative local entrepreneurs are starting to venture into this business.Belian is one of the most durable hardwood in tropical Borneo. It mainly grows on alluvial lowlands and along the river banks. It is brownish when fresh and becomes black with age.It is resistance to water and termite and usually has a service life of more than 100 years.
