The mystery of the dangling chicken.

I am still baffled to this day, 22 years after this picture was taken in a longhouse in Ulu Balingian, central Sarawak. The Iban man was carrying a small wooden pole on his shoulder and at the end of the pole hang a stripped bath towel and a young chicken. The occasion was a brief ceremony before the longhouse was to participate in the filming of a feature film on the Iban's way of life.I understand chicken and pigs are the most common and important animals used in all the Iban's social and religious rituals. But the chicken is not used in that strange manner. Perhaps CY of http://www.sarawakiana.blogspot.com/ could enlighten us on this particular issue.
