Rapids On The Upper Rajang River
The Rajang is the longest river in Malaysia. There are many treacherous rapids along its upper reaches. Some of the most dangerous and notorious ones are the Pelagus Rapids, the Bakun Rapids and the Murum Rapids. The Bakun Rapids will soon be submerged or tamed with the completion of the gigantic Bakun Hydro Dam. There are plans to develop another huge dam below Murum Rapids, so eventually it will also disappear. The series of 6 kilometers of rapids at Pelagus which is about an hour by boat from kapit is most accessible for visitors who wish to experience the adventure of shooting the wild rapids. There is also a small resort located near the Pelagus Rapids which provides 50 units of longhouse style accommodation.
