Padi transplanting

Many of the natives in Borneo are still self sufficient in the production of rice. They plant both hill and wet padi, 2-3 times a year. Harvest from a small 3-acre plot would be enough for a small family of 4-5 persons to last the whole year. Transplanting, as in harvesting, involves all the family members.Very often it also involves close relatives , friends and neighbour. A simple hut is always built in the padi field to store farm tools, fertilizer and also act as a resting place. Sometimes cooking is done in the hut, but often it is just done in the open.
