This is concrete evidence that men and wildlife can co-exist in harmony. I took this picture in the small coastal town of Daro in the Sarikei Division of Sarawak. These are bird's nests built beneath the wooden floor of an old shophouse. We can even see the shop's business sign board hanging at the entrance of the shop. Although there are many customers walking in and out of the shop every now and then, the swallows who build their homes underneathe the first floor are not afraid or disturbed by these human presence and movements. The birds too, fly in and out of their nests freely. I even noticed that some nests have young birds. Many Chinese believe that when your house or shop have bird nests like these, luck and good fortune are surely on your side.
