Tun Musa Hitam In Sibu

One of the politicians whom many Malaysians in Sarawak respect is Tun Musa Hitam. He served briefly as Deputy Prime Minister under Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. I can only remember Tun Musa visited Sibu only once in 1981 to declare open the new RASCOM (Rajang Area Security Command) building. RASCOM was established to combat communist insurgency especially in central Sarawak regions. I am sure the first picture above has never been published in any press before. Tun Musa is in the middle, on his left is Datuk Patinggi Dr. Wong Soon Kai, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak and to Tun's right , if I remember it correctly, is Mr. Liang Kim Beng, a former State Financial Secretary of Sarawak. I am still very puzzled what joke did Datuk Patinggi Dr. Wong told Tun Musa which caused him not only to burst into laughter, but also had to do some adjustment below his belt. The second picture shows Tun Musa officiating at the opening ceremony of the RASCOM building on 17/9/1981. In the third picture we see Tun Musa, together with his wife, cutting a birthday cake on his 48th birthday. At extreme left is Sarawak Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.
