The first time DAP set foot in Sarawak

Over the past 30 years or so I have photographed and collected many photos which I would like to share with readers now. As it is now election time again, here are some photos related to politics/politicans and election in Sarawak. The first picture shows DAP leader Lim Kit Siang first landed in Sibu, Sarawak about 30 years ago. He then declared open DAP's Sibu office at Mission Road with Chong Siew Chiang (left) and Ling Sie Ming (second from left) Chong Siew Chiang participated in several elections in Sarikei but lost all the time to the BN candidates. His son, Chong Chieng Jen, who is now secretary of DAP Sarawak, however was more lucky to win the Kota Sentosa state seat and Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat in Kuching in the last election. Now he is contesting in the Bandar Kuching Parliamentary seat again. Ling Sie Ming also won once in the state election in Sibu but he later "migrated" to New Zealand. It was Chong Siew Chiang who brought in the DAP to Sarawak from West Malaysia after he left SUPP.
